Why invest in Spinels now?
Spinels have long been used in jewelry. Red spinels were mistaken for rubies in the Crown Jewels. Before gemology or mineralogy, these gems were often mistaken for rubies or sapphires.
Today we know that spinels are way more rare than rubies or sapphires. But why haven’t they become more well known and expensive? First is that the supply of spinels are so limited that it’s incredibly difficult to acquire pieces for mass distribution within the titans of jewelry brands. Meaning big jewelry companies cannot produce enough pieces made of spinels to sell to the masses to justify spending the marketing money needed to make this gem famous. Secondly, unlike sapphires which can come in large sizes, Spinels rarely go above 3 carats of gemstone quality. The availability of these gemstones are simply finite. This gem is a favorite among gemstone connoisseurs and collectors.
Why invest in Spinels now? Well, no one’s heard of Paraiba tourmalines until about 5 years ago. I remember buying a 5 carat paraiba for a client 8 years ago for about $9,000 and today it would be worth around $100,000 (the price may still go up after I post this). Why is paraiba so expensive? 1. Color saturation. 2. Rarity 3. Fame
Spinels I predict will reach the same level of fame given time. They display dazzling colors and pack a lot of shine.
Here is the list of colors for Spinels which I think will be most investment worthy.
1. Jedi Spinel 2. Red Spinel 3. Cobalt Spinel 4. Pink Spinel 5. Flame Spinel 6. Lilac Spinel

Value for all spinels well go up over time. If you want an investment tho, the stone should be at least 1 carat. Smaller stones’ values will go up also but they will not be as significant. Since we’re talking about jewelry, buy to wear as adornment because you love it! Collect within your budget and if you can, invest in stones above 1 carat. Jedi spinels rarely come in large sizes and they are the rarest and pack the most punch.
